017 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (Part 2)

"EVERYTHING IN THIS ROOM IS EATABLE, EVEN I'M EATABLE. BUT THAT IS CALLED ‘CANNIBALISM,’ AND IS IN FACT FROWNED UPON IN MOST SOCIETIES."

In conclusion to our two-part Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory episode, we examine the film by comparing it to the 2005 “remake,” Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, directed by Tim Burton. Having re watched both films in close succession, we talk about the changes made between the films and how different generations of kids have reacted to each film. We look into Johnny Depp's polarizing performance and whether or not it's as bad as people thought it was, or if his interpretation was simply misunderstood and wrongly compared to Gene Wilder's performance. We compare each film's musical segments, and how much influence this film had on the music industry itself.

We don’t really see eye to eye on this one, but that’s part of the fun! So sit back and enjoy this virtually chocolate-covered episode of Retro Grade Podcast! See you again in two weeks for Planet of the Apes from 1968!
